JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces have questioned over 100 Palestinians in East Jerusalem since Sunday over allegations of unpaid taxes and building homes without Israeli permits, locals said Monday.
Bassam Abu Hlayyil, the head of an extended family in Jerusalem, told Ma'an that around 75 Palestinians were briefly detained in al-Salam on Sunday. He said some were released after a judge ordered them to pay fines.
On Monday, Israeli forces stormed the Al-Manarah building in Beit Hanina and detained 25 Palestinians, who were taken to the Russian Compound detention center.
The Al-Manarah building was constructed in 2003 but is under a demolition order by the Jerusalem municipality because it was built without a license.
Abu Hlayyil said the residents had tried in vain to get a construction permit.
Also Monday, Israeli forces ransacked several homes and shops in Shufat refugee camp and detained 15 Palestinians over unpaid debts to the tax authority.
