RAMALLAH, May 18, 2013 (WAFA) – The Israeli army closed Saturday with cement blocks the main road connecting the village of Deir Jarir and others with Ramallah, according to the head of the village council Imad Alawi.

He said the road, which also connects Ramallah with Jericho and goes through Deir Jarir and its neighboring village, Taybeh, is the only passage way to Ramallah for seven villages in that area.

He said residents of that area have now to take a long way to Qalandia checkpoint in order to reach Ramallah.

Alawi said he believes the closure was a collective punishment measure against the village for resisting Israeli attempts to seize their land for the benefit of area settlements.
