Nablus prisoner released after 10 years

12:00 Dec 20 2012 Balata

Description
NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Israeli authorities on Thursday released Fatah member Mohammad Hashah Abu Salam after detaining him for 10 years.

Crowds gathered at the entrances of Nablus and Balata refugee camp to welcome Abu Salam with fireworks and songs.

Abu Salam said his happiness was not complete because thousands of Palestinians remained in Israeli jails. He called for solidarity with prisoners and greater efforts to release them.

The father of three was born in Balata camp in 1969 and is locally renowned for being wanted by Israel since he was a child.

Abu Salem's family was expelled from Yaffa in 1948 during the creation of the state of Israel.
