Israeli Forces Open Fire at Farmers Picking Olives

12:00 Oct 16 2012 Beit Hanoun

Description
GAZA, October 16, 2012 (WAFA) – Israeli forces stationed at Beit Hanoun checkpoint east of Gaza Tuesday opened machinegun fire towards a group of Palestinians and volunteers picking olives in the area, according to a statement by a local organization.

It said the Israeli army prevents the farmers from reaching their land near the borders with Israel.

It said the farmers should be able to safely access their land and their crops without fear of being shot at by Israeli soldiers.

Israel opens fire at Palestinians who get within 300 meters from its borders and sometimes it extends the buffer zone to 1000 meters.
