Medical sources in Gaza reported Thursday that the death toll from Israel’s genocide of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has surpassed 69,187 Palestinians, with the vast majority being women and children.
The number of wounded has reached 170,703 since October 7, 2023. Rescue teams continue to face insurmountable challenges, as many victims remain trapped under rubble in areas inaccessible due to bombardment and lack of equipment.
In the past 24 hours alone, hospitals received the bodies of two slain Palestinians—one newly killed and one recovered from the ruins—alongside five wounded civilians.
These figures reflect continued violations of the ceasefire agreement announced on October 11, 2023.
Since that date, Israeli forces have killed at least 260 Palestinians and injured 632 others, while 533 bodies have been recovered, many in advanced stages of decomposition due to delayed access.
Al-Jazeera has documented repeated Israeli airstrikes on civilian areas, including Khan Younis and Beit Lahia, despite the declared truce.
The outlet quoted Gaza’s Civil Defense as saying, “We are unable to reach entire neighborhoods due to the destruction and the threat of renewed attacks.”
Independent mortality estimates published on medRxiv suggest the true death toll may be significantly higher, possibly exceeding 84,000, due to underreporting and the inability to retrieve bodies from collapsed buildings.
Gaza’s health ministry warns of a deepening humanitarian crisis, with over 350,000 residents suffering from chronic illnesses and no access to medication.
Infrastructure damage is estimated at over $70 billion, with 90% of civilian facilities destroyed.
The blockade continues to prevent the entry of fuel, medical supplies, and rescue equipment, leaving emergency crews overwhelmed and civilians without shelter, food, or water.
