On Friday, August 22nd, day 686 of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, Israeli forces killed at least 71 people in various parts of the Gaza Strip. In addition, 251 injured arrived at Gaza Strip hospitals as a result of the ongoing Israeli massacres and targeting. Ambulance and civil defense crews are finding it difficult to reach the victims, as a large number of them are still under the rubble and debris, and on the roads.

Israeli forces are intensifying attacks across Gaza City, with ongoing airstrikes forcing civilians to flee again. The ground invasion’s expansion is accelerating the campaign of genocide and ethnic cleansing.

Of those killed today, 24 were aid seekers, killed by Israeli soldiers and US mercenaries while trying to obtain food for their families. 133 were injured in the ‘aid’ centers that have, since the US company took over aid distribution in Gaza on May 27th, turned into gladiator arenas where Palestinians are forced to fight each other for small amounts of food.

This brings the total number of aid seekers who arrived at hospitals to 2,060 killed and more than 15,197 injured since May 27th, 2025.

During the past 24 hours, Gaza Strip hospitals recorded two new deaths as a result of starvation and malnutrition, bringing the total number to 273 starvation deaths, including 112 children.

The toll of the genocidal war and the aggression launched by the Israeli occupation forces on the Gaza Strip has risen to 62,263 killed and 157,365 injured since October 7, 2023.

Among the death toll are 10,717 killed and 45,324 injuries since March 18, 2025, since the Israeli occupation resumed its aggression on the Gaza Strip by unilaterally violating the ceasefire agreement that was implemented in late January.

Infant Ghadeer Brika died today, Friday, in Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, as a result of starvation resulting from systematic Israeli starvation, lack of treatment, and the siege accompanying the genocide committed by the occupation for 22 months.

A medical source reported that Ghadeer (5 months old) died as a result of complications from starvation, amid the inability of hospitals to provide the necessary care due to the severe shortage of food and medicine.

The source explained that the girl had been suffering from atrophy, encephalopathy and cerebral palsy since birth, but malnutrition and loss of basic treatments exacerbated her condition until it deteriorated sharply.

Ghadeer’s mother also suffers from malnutrition, which has made it more difficult to care for the infant under the tragic conditions experienced by families in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The girl’s father, Ashraf Breika, said that his daughter “died as a result of a lack of milk”, explaining that he searched for infant formula but did not find it.

He added, explaining that even if he found milk, “the prices are high and I cannot afford to buy it.”

On social media, pictures of the child Ghadeer have been circulating. The baby clearly showed signs of severe emaciation and protruding bones due to lack of food and treatment. This photo embodied the tragedy of the child Ghadeer Brika, and thousands of children in Gaza whose thin bodies could not bear the consequences of the siege and starvation.

The two-month-old infant Raseel Abu Masoud, who died due to severe malnutrition, as the acute shortage of food and medicine continues to claim the lives of children amid the continuous Israeli blockade of Gaza.

Rein Paulsen, director of Emergencies and Resilience at the FAO, said a team of 50 experts from 19 organizations conducted the analysis using standard IPC protocols to ensure rigor and neutrality.

He emphasized that the report details the scale and severity of the famine in Gaza and stressed that “we are in a race against time” to take immediate action to prevent further loss of life and alleviate suffering.

The IPC report shows that 514,000 people in Gaza are currently experiencing actual famine, with the number expected to rise to 641,000 by next September. The assessment confirms that this is based on facts on the ground, not political statements, and that limited aid does not change the severity of humanitarian needs or reduce famine indicators.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said that following the UN’s confirmation of famine in Gaza, they urge the UN General Assembly to act immediately to adopt a resolution to deploy a peacekeeping force to protect civilians. Field data shows over 1.5 million people are already suffering severe hunger, far beyond IPC estimates. The group’s field data reveals that the situation is far worse than the IPC report indicates, with over 1.5 million people already facing severe hunger.
