A Palestinian citizen was forced to demolish his family’s home on Saturday, in the town of Jabal Al-Mokabber, southeast of occupied Jerusalem.
Media sources said that the young man, Ahmad Musa Al-Qanbar, demolished his own home in order to avoid the excessive fines that he would be forced to pay if the Israeli municipality demolished it.
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Jerusalem (Silwanic) reported that the home was shelter for Ahmad, his wife, and their four children; they are now homeless.
Silwanic quoted Ahmad’s father, Hajj Musa Hussein Al-Qanbar, who said,
“There are people living in this house, why should we demolish it? What is their fault? You refuse to give us a permit. This is injustice. A house like this, which we were tired of building, was demolished in an hour and it was upon us. Where should we go now?”
According to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, the Israeli authorities carried out 318 demolitions in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, in the first six months of 2024.
