Day 260 of Israeli Assault on Gaza: Airstrikes Continue in Northern, Central, Southern Gaza
Published on: Jun 22, 2024 at 10:33
On Saturday, day 260 of the Israeli attack on the people of Gaza which began October 7th, 2023, and has continued without pause since then, Israeli airstrikes continued on civilian areas throughout the Gaza Strip.
Two Palestinians were killed when Israeli forces fired shells and tank fire towards the homes of citizens and the tents of the displaced in the western area of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, and in the center and east of the city, which led to the deaths of two and the wounding of 10 others, who were transferred to Nasser Hospital in the city of Khan Yunis, according to the Wafa news agency.
In addition, the Israeli occupation aircraft launched a series of raids in the center of Rafah, blowing up residential buildings.
In Khan Yunis, the occupation army intensely fired bullets and dozens of shells in the western areas of the city, specifically in the “Al-Mawasi” area, which led to injuries among citizens, amid a displacement of dozens of families from the western areas of the cities of Rafah and Khan Yunis towards the central areas.
The occupation artillery also fired shells towards citizens’ homes in the middle of the Gaza Strip and in the northwestern areas of the Nuseirat camp, wounding a number of civilians, including children, who were transferred to Al Awda Hospital.
As for Gaza City, the Israeli occupation tanks stationed in the “Netzarim” axis since the morning hours fired tank shells towards the neighborhoods of Al-Zaytoun, Tal Al-Hawa, Sheikh Ejlin, and Al-Sabra, which led to the injury of a number of citizens, including children and women, who were transferred to the Baptist Hospital in the city, accompanied by Apache helicopters, which opened fire on citizens’ homes south of the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, southeast of the city.
The Palestinian Red Crescent announced that the Israeli occupation was intensively targeting what it claimed were “safe areas” in Mawasi, Khan Yunis and Rafah, while the large displacement of citizens constitutes a burden on medical services with the continued closure of the Rafah crossing, since the seventh of last May.
UN OCHA recently reported that the health system in Gaza has lost 70 per cent of its bed capacity, the Ministry of Health reports, as efforts continue to rehabilitate vital medical services in northern Gaza. In addition, the volume of medical supplies entering Gaza is insufficient to sustain the health response and all medical evacuations outside Gaza remain halted, warned the World Health Organization this week.
Medical teams in the Gaza Strip are in dire need of health supplies, and efforts are being made to activate ambulance and emergency services in the northern Gaza Strip, where famine conditions exist due to the ongoing Israeli siege that has prevented food and medicine from entering Gaza. The situation has gotten exponentially worse since May 7th, when Israeli troops took over and later completely destroyed the border crossing with Egypt, located in southern Rafah. Hundreds of aid trucks remain at the Egyptian border with Gaza, unable to cross due to the Israeli military’s complete closure of the border.
The Israeli occupation forces have continued their aggression against the Gaza Strip, by land, sea and air, since October 7, 2023, resulting in the death of at least 37,431 citizens and the injury of 85,653 others, an indefinite and ongoing toll, as thousands of victims are still under the rubble.
