Seven Israelis were wounded and an IDF soldier was killed on Friday morning after a Palestinian attacker opened fire at a bus near the West Bank settlement of Dolev northwest of Ramallah.
According to the IDF, an officer and soldier were seriously wounded in the incident, and five others were lightly and moderately wounded. Damage was also sustained by the bus and an ambulance that had arrived at the scene.
An investigation carried out by the Israeli army found that the assailant arrived in the area during the night, traveling through an overgrown area, and shot at the bus near 5 A.M.
Israeli forces rushed to the area, and the assailant fled toward the nearby village of Deir Ibzi. The forces pursued the assailant for about three hours, trading fire. The army estimates that the assailant used a sniper rifle.
The army says the assailant sought refuge in an area with dense vegetation and was killed after two precise missiles were fired at him from an attack helicopter.
According to sources in the army, the forces struggled to locate the assailant using surveillance equipment due to the cloudy weather conditions.
On Saturday, the Israeli army announced that Sgt. 1st Class Ilay David Garfinkel, 21, from the town of Sitria in central Israel, was killed in an exchange of fire with the terrorist. He served in the IDF's special forces Duvdevan Unit.
The attacker was identified as Majhad Mansur, 32, who formerly worked at the Palestinian Presidential Guard, resigning in 2013.
Masur was arrested for two weeks in 2015 on suspicion of security violations. According to Palestinian reports, he lived in Deir Ibzi, and security forces searched his home later on Friday.
Three of the wounded were taken to Petah Tikva's Beilinson Hospital, while four others were transported to Sheba Medical Center.

Israeli missiles executed a Palestinian man, on Friday, after a prolonged gun battle, while seven soldiers were injured, near the town of Deir Ibzi’, west of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank.
Media sources reported that the young man, Mujahid Barakat Mansour, 32, from Deir Ibzi’, opened fire at a bus carrying illegal Israeli colonizers near the “Dolev” settlement, before dawn on Friday.
Israeli forces rushed to the scene and conducted a search for the gunman, while heavy exchange of fire ensued, resulting in the injury of at least eight occupation soldiers.
Israeli media reported that the young man was armed with a sniper-rifle, and continued to exchange fire with the army, before the elite “Duvdevan” unit was called to the scene.
The elite Commando brigade also came under fire, before two attack helicopters and a drone arrived for reinforcement; the military helicopter fired two guided missiles, killing Mansour.
It was added that the army confiscated the body of the slain young man, and a large army force invaded Deir Ibzi’ town.
The army surrounded the young man’s family home in the town, and abducted his wife and his brother, the identities of whom were unknown at the time of writing this report.
It is important to mention that Mansour is a former prisoner, a married father of two, and a former member of the presidential security.
Israeli forces and colonizers have killed 449 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank since the beginning of the Israeli military onslaught against the Gaza Strip, on October 7, 2023.
