Israeli forces shot and killed, on Saturday, a Palestinian man near the Islamic cemetery in the “Karantina” area of the Old City of Hebron, in the southern occupied West Bank.
Media sources said that occupation forces opened fire at a Palestinian man, identified as Mahmoud Abdul-Hafeth Youssef Nofal, 42, the Imam at the Al-Qasim Mosque, while he was near the Islamic cemetery in the Old City.
It was announced that the injured man succumbed to his wounds after the army prevented ambulance crews from reaching him.
According to the Ma’an News Agency, Nofal had opened fire towards Israeli settlements in the Old City, while sirens were sounded and settlers were ordered to stay in their homes.
The Times of Israel reported that the army “neutralized” the man, shooting him with live rounds, killing him, while there were no reports of injuries caused by the alleged shooter.
Later it was reported that soldiers stormed the home of the slain man in the “Al-Sha’aba neighborhood”, ransacked the home, detaining and interrogating his family members.
It was reported that the army deployed a large army force throughout many neighborhoods in the Old City of Hebron.
Soldiers closed the entrances to the city of Hebron, in addition to the towns of Ethna to the west, Tarqoumia to the northwest, and Sa’ir to the north of the city.
Israeli forces have killed 435 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank since the beginning of the Israeli military onslaught against the Gaza Strip, on October 7, 2023.
