Defense officials told have told Haaretz that, contrary to claims by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, the release of dozens of Palestinian administrative detainees late Thursday night was not connected to the upcoming holy Muslim month of Ramadan.
The officials added that the IDF and the Shin Bet had ben warning of overcrowding in Israeli prisons for some time and that the released Palestinians were due to be freed within the next month in any case.
