RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 17 Palestinians, including two minors, during overnight raids between Sunday and Monday across the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) and Israeli sources.
From the al-Arrub refugee camp in the southern occupied West Bank Hebron district, Israeli forces detained six Palestinians after raiding and searching their homes.
Locals identified the detainees as Khader Yousif Jawabra, Bahaa Majid al-Raai, 23, Ayham Nasser Salama Jundi, 26, Muhammad Abd al-Basit Abu Rayya, 28, and Muhammad Khalid Abu Sil, 25.
Israeli forces also detained Adam Amjad al-Uweiwi, 20, who was near the refugee camp when he was detained.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed to Ma’an a total of five detentions from al-Arrub.
In the southern district of Bethlehem, Israeli forces detained Mahmoud Samir al-Omour, 15, and Moussa Jawdat al-Omour from the village of Tuqu.
The Israeli army confirmed two detentions from Tuqu.
In the central Jerusalem district, Israeli forces detained Amjad Aawar, 16, Muaid Abu Mayala, 17, and Fouad al-Qaq, 19.
According to the Israeli army spokesperson, forces detained one Palestinian from the Jerusalem-area town of Qattana.
Just north of Jerusalem in the Ramallah district, Israeli forces detained Muhammad Omar Hamid, Shadi Azzam, and Ahad Issa Rabi.
According to PPS, Israeli forces also detained Abd al-Rahman Hamdan from the Ramallah-area village of Beit Sira.
The Israeli army spokesperson confirmed one detention from Beit Sira, as well as two from the village of Silwad, one from Dura al-Qaraa village, and one from the village of Deir Abu Mashaal -- all located in the Ramalla governorate.
In the northern West Bank district of Jenin, PPS reported that Israeli forces detained Musab Mahmoud al-Halayja, 22.
The Israeli army spokesperson confirmed one detention from Jenin.
Israeli forces conduct night raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-daily basis. According to UN documentation, the Israeli army carried out 252 military detention raids between Nov. 15 and Nov. 28.
According to prisoners rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of October. The organization estimates that 40 percent of Palestinian men have been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
