In the pre-dawn hours of Thursday, Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian young man, Fadi Mu’ayyad Badran, 21, and injured four others in Betunia town west of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank.
Occupation forces stormed the town, late Wednesday night, prior to the release of 30 female and child detainees from Israeli prisons, sparking protests among local Palestinian youths.
Soldiers invaded neighborhoods near the “Ofer” prison, in the town of Beitunia, west of Ramallah, where hundreds of family members of Palestinian detainees were gathered, awaiting the release of their loved ones.
Palestinian youths threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at the army vehicles, while soldier fired barrages of tear gas canisters at those who resisted the incursion.
During confrontations in front of the Israeli “Ofer” prison, soldiers opened fire with live rounds, shooting five Palestinians, one of whom was shot in the chest, while four were shot in their limbs, and 2 sustained injuries as a result of falls.
According to medical sources, Fadi Mu’ayyad Badran, 21, sustained a live gunshot wound to the chest and succumbed to his life-threatening injury.
Israel now has killed 455 Palestinians, including many children, in the West Bank since the beginning of this year, 2023, 247 of the slain Palestinians were killed since October 7.
Occupation authorities released 15 female detainees and 15 child detainees from Israeli prisons, while the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas in Gaza, released 5 children and 7 women from their custody.
As part of the humanitarian truce, Israel agreed to release Palestinian detainees in exchange for the release of the Israeli captive October 7, 2023.
On Wednesday, the army killed four Palestinians, including two children, after a prolonged military attack against the northern occupied West Bank city of Jenin and its refugee camp.
Beginning on October 7, 2023, Israel bombarded all areas of the besieged Gaza Strip, killing at least 15,000 Palestinians, including 6,150 children and 4,000 women, in addition to injuring at least 36,000 people. After ceasefire came into effects, corpses of hundreds of Palestinians were found in streets, under rubble of homes and buildings, in and around hospitals, and in various areas across the devastated Gaza Strip.
