Two Palestinians were killed Tuesday by Israeli army fire at the village of Deir al-Hatab, near the settlement of Elon Moreh in the northern West Bank.
According to the army, four Palestinians shot at the direction of the settlement, when an IDF force which was nearby shot at them. Two of the suspected assailants were killed, and their bodies are being held by the army. The two others managed to escape, and were likely wounded.
The army added that three weapons have been found at the scene.
According the Palestinian sources, the two who were killed were identified as Said Atiti – an officer with Palestinian security forces – and Mohammed Abu Daraa. Both were reportedly former prisoners who lived in the Balata Refugee Camp near Nablus.
The Palestinians reported clashes with settlers in the area at the time of the shooting. According to the Palestinian Red Crescent, one of the injured in the shooting incident was evacuated to a hospital in Nablus.
Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli forces arrested five Palestinians in the city of Jenin in the northern West Bank, whom the military claims were preparing to carry out an attack.
According to Palestinian sources in Jenin, among those arrested is Ahmed Turkman, son of Maher Turkman, who in 2022 was shot and killed by Israeli forces after he shot at a bus full of Israeli soldiers in the northern West Bank.
