On Thursday, Israeli soldiers confirmed that, for the first time since August, Palestinian fighters fired shells from Gaza into colonies across the perimeter fence in retaliation for the assassination of a senior member of the group in Jenin, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli army said the Iron Dome missiles interception system downed three shells, adding that three other shells landed on lands in Gaza.
Israeli Ynet News quoted an Israeli army spokesperson stating that the rocket siren alarms were sounded in Ein Ha’shlosha, Kissufim, and Nirim colonies adjacent to the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad, said it fired the shells to retaliate against the Thursday assassination of Farouq Jamil Hasan Salama, 28, in Jenin, and the killing of a child, Mohammad Samer Khallouf, 14.
Earlier Thursday, the soldiers killed two Palestinians, Amer Halabiyya, 20, from Beit Hanina, and Daoud Mahmoud Rayyan, 42, from Beit Duqqu, near occupied Jerusalem.
A day earlier, on November 2nd, the soldiers killed Habes Abdul-Hafith Rayyan, 54, after shooting him at a military roadblock west of Ramallah in the central part of the occupied West Bank.
