On Friday dawn, Israeli soldiers killed one Palestinian and injured two others, one seriously, near the Huwwara military roadblock south of Nablus, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.
The Palestinian Health Ministry has confirmed that the soldiers fired many live rounds at the car of Emad Abu Rashid, 47, shooting him with several bullets in the abdomen and the head.
The Health Ministry added that the soldiers also seriously injured two Palestinians after shooting one in the abdomen and one in the chest.
Emad, from Askar refugee camp northeast of Nablus, was a member of the member of the Palestinian Civil Defense that provides emergency services to the Palestinians, including medical, firefighting and recrew operations and training
Palestinian medics rushed to the area, but the soldiers refused to allow them to provide any treatment to Emad or the other seriously wounded Palestinians.
The medics were later allowed to take Emad to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus, where the doctors tried to save his life, but he succumbed to his wounds.
The Israeli army claimed that, about an hour earlier, Palestinian fighters fired several live rounds at the Huwwara roadblock and sped away, adding that the soldiers were looking for two Palestinian cars believed to be involved in the shooting.
The Israeli army said the shooting did not lead to any injuries and added that the soldiers initiated a search campaign in the area before locating several backpacks believed to have been used by the Palestinian resistance fighters.
The army added that the soldiers “shot four Palestinians, including one who was shot in the thigh before the soldiers arrested him.”
Palestinian sources said the soldiers fired many live rounds randomly hitting several vehicles, including Emad’s car.
