An 18-year-old was moderately wounded in a shooting at a yeshiva in the southern West Bank settlement of Carmel on Thursday night. The Israeli army is searching for the assailant, who fled the scene.

The assailant first shot at a vehicle outside the settlement in the South Hebron Hills, and then into the yeshiva.

The Home Front Command ordered settlement residents to remain inside their homes. Special units were sent to the area. Emergency services evacuated the injured man to the Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva.

The Israeli army said it was investigating the circumstances of the shooting. Early on Friday the army said it found over ten bullet casings at the scene, but so far had not found a vehicle, leading to the suspicion the shooter fled on foot. Searches are being conducted in the area

The army now suspects the shots were fired from a few hundred meters away from a spot below the yeshiva, which is located nearby the settlement fence.
