Israeli navy ships opened fire, on Sunday, toward Palestinian-manned fishing boats sailing in the Mediterranean off the coast of the isolated and besieged Gaza Strip, the Palestinian WAFA News Agency reported.

WAFA correspondent stated that the fishing boats were sailing at 3 nautical miles off the coast of the Sudaniya area, northwest of Gaza City, when the Israeli navy opened fire with live rounds and water cannons, causing damage to one fishing boat.

He added that the navy also opened fire at fishermen’s boats off the coast of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip. The navy ships fired live rounds and shot water cannons at the boats, forcing the fishermen back to shore, out of fear for their safety.

The Oslo Accords, signed by Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization in 1993 and 1995 stipulated that the Israeli occupation authorities must allow Palestinian fishermen to sail and fish up to 20 nautical miles off the coast, however, this was never implemented.

In fact, the occupation navy threatens the lives and livelihoods of Palestinian fishermen sailing at only 3 nautical miles off the coast with machine-gun fire, and water cannons.
