Description
JERUSALEM, January 19, 2012 (WAFA) – The Israeli rights group, the Public Committee against Torture in Israel (PCATI), plans to petition the Israeli High Court to reopen investigation into a torture complaint by a Palestinian that was closed by the Ministry of Justice, the Israeli daily, Haaretz, reported Thursday.
According to PCATI, the Justice Ministry closed investigation against two Israeli policemen, who had physically and sexually abused Muhammad Warani, 27, alleging lack of evidence.
Warani, a resident of Izariyeh, was detained in November 2007 and was transferred to Ma’aleh Adumim police station where he was physically and sexually tortured by his Israeli interrogators.
He said in a complaint against the interrogators that he was blindfolded, handcuffed, and sodomized with a metal pole by a police officer, who later took Warani to the toilet and urinated on his face and cloths, according to the paper.
PCATI said it had additional evidence that supports Warani’s charges that would at least necessitate further investigation; including polygraph results and police recording of the victim.
The police officer, who was charged of abuse against Warani, was previously charged of similar torture cases.
