JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- The prosecution of the Central District Court withdrew indictments against two Israeli settlers, on Monday, for allegedly torching Jerusalem's Dormition Abbey in February 2016, on the basis of “insufficient evidence.”

According to Haaretz news outlet, one of the suspects, Yinon Reuveni, 23, was convicted of arson of the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes at Tabgha, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, in June 2015.

Reuveni's suspected accomplice was a minor when the arson was committed.

The accomplice was arrested, but not indicted, as part of the investigation of the 2015 church arson, which injured three members of the Dawabsheh family and killed their one-and-a-half-year-old infant, in Duma village, in the northern West Bank district of Nablus.

Sources also mentioned that in the Dormition Abbey arson case, the suspect was tried as a minor for involvement in terrorism and hate crimes, including arson and vandalism, as part of a plea bargain.

Itamar Ben Gvir, Reuveni’s and his accomplice’s attorney, said he was glad the judge accepted his position and that the prosecution "admitted it had no evidence."
