Israeli aircraft struck a number of targets in the Gaza Strip, including two naval vessels belonging to Hamas, the military said early Sunday after a rocket was launched from Gaza at Israeli territory on Saturday night.
The rocket landed in an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council, a community near the border with the coastal enclave. No damage was caused and no injuries were reported, a statement by the council said.
News of the rocket launch come after a tense weekend in which Israeli aircrafts attacked several Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip on Friday night, hours after a projectile was fired at Israel from Gaza.
That fire exchange came following a day of clashes along the border. The Israeli military's spokesperson's unit said in a statement that a Hamas military compound in southern Gaza and underground facilities in the north were attacked.
Gaza's Health Ministry said that 41 Palestinians were wounded by live fire, including 15 minors, two women, four paramedics and two journalists. It was the 50th consecutive week of Palestinian protests at the fence.
The Israeli military confirmed a projectile was fired from Gaza at Israel on Friday evening, after rocket alert sirens sounded in southern Israel near the Gaza Strip. A statement from the Eshkol Regional Council states that a projectile fell in an open area between two communities in southern Israel, causing no casualties or damage.
