HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli authorities released 18-year-old Lama al-Bakri, on Tuesday, after serving three years and two months in administrative detention in Damon prison.
Lama al-Bakri was initially detained in December 2015 after allegedly attempting to carry out a stabbing attack near the illegal Israeli settlement of Kiryat Arba in Hebron in southern occupied West Bank.
Al-Bakri was shot and seriously injured by Israeli soldiers at the time of the stabbing attempt.
In 2015, Israeli forces have detained scores of Palestinians, many of them minors, for allegedly being in possession of knives following a spate of alleged and actual small-scale knife attacks by Palestinians that surged in the fall of 2015.
Eyewitnesses have also said in a number of cases that Israeli security forces planted knives on slain or imprisoned Palestinians to claim that they were acting in self-defense during a stabbing attack.
According to prisoners rights group Addameer, there are 5,500 Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli prisons, of whom 230 are child prisoners, of whom 41 are under the age of 16 years.
