GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained Nasser al-Kilani, Head of the Erez crossing (Beit Hanoun) at the Palestinian Ministry of Civil Affairs in the besieged Gaza Strip, on Thursday.
Locals said that Israeli forces detained al-Kilani while he was at the Erez crossing, between Israel and the northern besieged Gaza Strip, heading to the occupied West Bank.
Al-Kilani was reportedly headed to visit one of his family members in a hospital in the West Bank, however, was detained as he was crossing.
Sources added that Israeli forces transferred al-Kilani to an unknown location for interrogation.
Erez is the only land crossing between Gaza and Israel, although travel is heavily restricted by Israeli authorities as part of a crippling blockade on the coastal enclave in place since 2007.
Palestinians detained at Erez are often interrogated for several hours, sometimes for days, before they are either allowed into Israel en route to the West Bank or sent back to Gaza.
