GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Two Palestinians were killed after being targeted by an Israeli airstrike in east of Khan Younis in the southern besieged Gaza Strip, on Monday night.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that medical teams transferred the two Palestinians to the Nasser Hospital after an Israeli missile hit them as they allegedly attempted to cross the security border fence with Israel.

Spokesperson of the ministry, Ashraf al-Qidra, identified them as Naji Jamil Abu Assi, 18, and Alaa Ziad Abu Assi, 21, from Khan Younis.

Hebrew-language news outlets reported that Israeli warplanes targeted a group of Palestinians as they approached the security border fence in southern Gaza.

Sources also claimed that the Israeli airstrike came after the Palestinians placed a "suspicious object" near the border fence.
