HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli settlers assaulted, led by right-wing Israeli settlers Baruch Marzel and under armed security by Israeli forces, assaulted a group of activists doing voluntary work in the Tel Rumeida Street in the osuthern West Bank district of Hebron on Friday.
Activists from the Youth Against Settlement (YAS) group were carrying out voluntary work of cleaning and repairing around a Palestinian house in Tel Rumeida in Hebron's Old City when Israeli settlers attacked the house and activists.
The house belongs to Tel Rumeida resident, Youssef al-Azza.
Coordinator of "Youth against Settlement" Murad Amr said that a number of the attack aims to "weaken" Palestinian movement inside closed areas, such as Tel Rumeida, to allow more freedom to Israeli settlers.
The attacked house comes wall-to-wall with the illegal Israeli settlement outpost of Ramat Yishai and Marzel's house.
Amr pointed out that volunteering in the area, which comes under a campaign that aims to repair and maintain houses in closed area of Hebron, would continue.
Some 800 notoriously aggressive Israeli settlers now live under the protection of the Israeli military in the Old City, surrounded by more than 30,000 Palestinians.
Palestinian residents of the Old City face a large Israeli military presence on a daily basis, with at least 20 checkpoints set up at the entrances of many streets, as well as the entrance of the Ibrahimi Mosque itself.
Additionally, Palestinians are not allowed to drive on al-Shuhada street, have had their homes and shops on the street welded shut, and in some areas of the Old City, are not permitted to walk on certain roads.
Meanwhile, Israeli settlers move freely on the street, drive cars, and carry machine guns.
