JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces re-opened the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem late Friday after Palestinian Muslim worshipers carried out an open sit-in in the compound of the holy site upon call by head of the mosque.
A Ma’an reporter in Jerusalem said that Israeli forces allowed Palestinian to enter the mosque hours after closure and retreated from the area.
Religious leaders and forces in Jerusalem said that the reopening of the mosque’s gates is considered a victory.
Israeli forces had raided the Al-Aqsa compound via the Moroccans Gate on Friday firing stun grenades at worshipers following prayers.
Arab Knesset Member Ahmad Tibi had said on Friday that the closure of the holy site is considered "a dangerous provocation and a rude violation"
