JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces arrested and attacked Palestinian worshipers inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque compounds in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem on Tuesday morning, as groups of Israeli settlers entered the compound.
Witnesses told Ma’an that Israeli special forces and police attacked a group of Muslim worshipers sitting in a group and reciting the Quran in the compound.
Israeli forces assaulted and pushed the worshipers, and detained at least 12.
The detainees were taken to the Chain Gate detention center in the Old City.
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said in a statement that 12 Palestinians were detained from the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, identifying some of them as Assad Mifleh, Izz al-Din Zayyud, Muhammad Tafesh, Amjad al-Ashqar and Ubaida Ayish.
Witnesses added that at least 50 Israeli settlers raided the compound via the Moroccans Gate, claiming that settler groups have called for more raids to the compound to be taken during the last 10 days of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
