RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian youth was critically injured with two live bullets, one in the chest and another in the shoulder, during clashes that erupted with Israeli forces in the al-Amari refugee camp in the central West Bank district of Ramallah.
Medical sources told Ma’an that the youth’s injury was critical, noting that he was transferred to the Palestine Medical Center in Ramallah for treatment and immediately sent to surgery.
The identity of the youth remained unknown.
Israeli forces had raided the refugee camp on Wednesday morning before dawn, causing clashes to erupt between youths of the camp and Israeli forces that heavily opened live fire, according to locals.
Israeli soldiers also fired tear gas and sound bombs in the area as youth threw stones at the armed forces.
According to The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Israeli forces conducted 211 search and arrest operations across the West Bank between January 30 and February 12.
During those raids, at least seven triggered clashes resulting in 147 injuries, according to the group.
Israeli search and detention raids are a nightly occurrence in Palestinian cities, towns, and refugee camps across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Due to the typically aggressive nature of the raids, clashes often erupt between Palestinian youth and armed Israeli forces.
According to OCHA, Israeli forces have carried out a bi weekly average of 185 raids in 2018, compared to an average of 120 in 2017.
