Palestinian medical sources have reported, on Wednesday evening, that a young Palestinian man suffered serious wounds after being attacked by extremist Israeli colonists, while leaving the al-Aqsa Mosque, in occupied Jerusalem.

Medics of the Palestinian Red Crescent (PRC) rushed to the mosque and provided the young man with the urgently needed treatment, before transferring him to a hospital due to the seriousness of his condition.

The attack left the young man, identified as Mustafa al-Moghrabi, unconscious and in a very serious health condition.

Firas ad-Dibbs, the head of the Media Department at the Palestinian Waqf and Religious Affairs Ministry, said the attack was carried out when a group of extremist colonists were leaving the mosque, after invading it and conducting a provocative tour.

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- A Palestinian youth was reportedly severely beaten on Wednesday by a group of Israeli settlers as they raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem’s Old City, according to official Palestinian Authority (PA)-owned Wafa news agency.

Wafa reported that a group of Israeli settlers broke into the Al-Aqsa compound under Israeli police protection and severely beat a young Palestinian man as they were exiting the compound.

The youth, whose identity remained unknown, reportedly lost consciousness and was transferred to the hospital for treatment. He was reportedly in critical condition.

An Israeli police spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, which sits just above the Western Wall plaza, houses both the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa mosque. The third holiest site in Islam, it is also venerated as Judaism's most holy place, as it sits where Jews believe the First and Second Temples once stood.

Israeli authorities regularly allow Jewish visitors to enter the site, often under armed guard. Such visits are typically made by right-wingers attempting to unsettle the status quo at the site, and coincide with restrictions on Palestinian access, including bans on entrance and detentions.
