JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces reportedly detained a Palestinian “youth” on Wednesday in Jerusalem over alleged knife possession, according to local sources.
Locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces stopped and searched a young Palestinian man, whose identity remained unknown, and allegedly found a knife in his possession.
The Palestinian was detained from the entrance of the central bus station on Jaffa Street in West Jerusalem and taken to an unknown location.
Over the past few days, as tensions across the occupied Palestinian territory have continued to rise over US President Donald Trump’s announcement recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, several Palestinians have been arrested and shot by Israeli forces over alleged knife possession and intent to carry out a stabbing attack.
Israeli forces have detained scores of Palestinians, many of the minors, for allegedly being in possession of knives following a spate of alleged and actual small-scale knife attacks by Palestinians that surged in the fall of 2015.
