Israeli forces detain 21 Palestinians, journalist, in West Bank raids

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained 21 Palestinians on Monday during predawn raids across the occupied West Bank, according to local Palestinian and Israeli army forces.

In the northern West Bank, locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces detained five Palestinians. They were identified as Ahmad Nabhan and Faraj Muhammad Sami from the Jayous village near Qalqiliya, former prisoner Amjad Hantash from Qalqiliya city, and Nimr al-Kilani and Yahiya Hamarsheh from the Yaabad town in southern Jenin.

Meanwhile, in the Nablus district, locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces raided the village of Qaryut and fired tear gas canisters at homes in the area.

In the central West Bank, Israeli forces detained four Palestinians from the Ramallah district. Locals identified them as Othman Zahran from Deir Abu Mashaal, and activist Abdullah Abu Rahma, Muhammad Adib Abu Rahma and Ahmad Muhammad Abu Rahma from Bilin.

Locals added that Israeli forces raided and searched a jewelry store in central Ramallah city, and confiscated some contents.

Eight Palestinians were detained from the Bethlehem and Hebron districts in the southern West Bank.

In Bethlehem city, Israeli forces detained journalist Amjad Abu Arafa from his home, and Mumen Abu Ahur and Hamdi al-Kamel.

In the Hebron district, Israeli forces detained Alaa Jaradat and Nassim Shalalda from Sair, Jaafar Walid Masalma, Muhammad Sabri Masalma and Arkan Rizq Masalma from Beit Awwa.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed 21 detentions to Ma’an.

According to United Nations documentation, Israeli forces conducted 166 search and arrest operations across the West Bank between October 24 and November 26.

Meanwhile, prisoners’ rights group Addameer recorded 6,198 Palestinians were detained by Israel as of October. The group has estimated that some 40 percent of Palestinian men will be detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
