BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- A Palestinian teenager was shot and severely injured by Israeli forces on Friday morning after he rammed his car into two Israeli civilians and allegedly attempted to commit a stabbing attack against Israeli forces in the southern West Bank district of Bethlehem.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that a Palestinian assailant committed a car ramming attack near the Efrat junction south of Bethlehem, lightly injuring one Israeli citizen.

Ynet news reported that the injured Israeli was a 70-year-old man.
“The assailant then continued on to the Gush Etzion Junction and hit another (Israeli) citizen, moderately injuring them,” the spokesperson said, adding that the Palestinian then allegedly exited his car with a knife and attempted to stab soldiers at the junction, who fired on him.

“The assailant was severely injured and treated at the scene by Israeli forces,” the spokesperson said.

Locals identified the Palestinian teen to Ma’an as Izz al-Din Ali Abu Rmeishan Karajeh, 17, from the Halhul town, north of Hebron.
According to Ynet, Karajeh was later evacuated to the Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem.

A number of Palestinians have been arrested, shot, or killed by Israeli forces for allegedly attempting to carry out attacks or being in possession of a knife at the Gush Etzion junction.

Though Israeli forces have claimed that Palestinians were allegedly attempting to carry out attacks in a majority of instances when Palestinians were killed, rights groups have disputed Israel's version of events in a number of cases, and argued that many alleged attackers could have been subdued in a non-lethal manner.
