BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli police on Thursday arrested a Palestinian man at the entrance of the illegal Kokhav Yaakov settlement southeast of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank for allegedly helping to plan and carry out an attack in the settlement.
Israeli police spokeswoman Luba al-Samri said in a statement that an Israeli settler working in the area “suspected someone walking around the entrance of the Kokhav Yaakov settlement and immediately called the firefighters department.”
Police then arrived to the area and along with the settler, “captured the suspect and detained him.”
A bag containing a Quran and two knives was reportedly seized from the Palestinian who, according to al-Samri “claimed in front of police forces that he was on his way to transfer the bag to another man who would carry out an attack.”
The Palestinian man was arrested and transferred for interrogation.
Since a wave of unrest erupted across Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory in October 2015, dozens of Palestinians have been arrested and imprisoned for attempting and allegedly attempting to carry out attacks against Israelis, specifically armed forces.
