BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained a Palestinian man on Thursday after he stole a truck as part of an alleged plan to carry out a car-ramming attack against Israeli soldiers. 

Israeli police spokesperson Luba al-Samri said in a statement that a 39-year-old Palestinian from the central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah was for stealing a truck in the coastal Israeli city of Holon. 

While it remained unclear when exactly the man stole the truck, he was arrested on Thursday when he was signaled to stop by Israeli police forces near Beit Dajan in the northern West Bank district of Nablus. 

According to al-Samri, the driver ignored the police signal and continued driving until he reached the Israeli city of Rishon Lezion where he was stopped by Israeli forces and detained.

“He then said that he stole the van to carry out a vehicular attack against Israeli soldiers,” al-Samri said, adding that the man’s detention was extended to Friday where he would be presented to the Rishon Lezion magistrate court.

Hundred of Palestinians have been arrested for allegedly planning or attempting to carry out attacks on Israeli soldiers, ever since a wave of violence broke out in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem in October 2015. 

Palestinians have often cited the daily frustrations and routine Israeli military violence imposed by Israel's nearly half century occupation of the Palestinian territory as main drivers for political attacks on Israelis.
