Three people were hurt and eight were arrested on Sunday at a demonstration in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh following the funeral of a Palestinian protester killed over the weekend at a local protest.
Mustafa Tamimi, 28, succumbed to his wounds after being hit in the face on Friday by a tear gas canister fired by an Israel Defense Forces soldier during the protest. Tamimi was throwing stones at an armored army jeep when he was shot by a soldier sitting in the rear of the vehicle.
Photos show Tamimi several meters behind the jeep and that he was hit directly in the head, which is against the regulations governing the rules of engagement. According to the rules, the tear gas should not be fired against people.
Tamimi suffered very serious injuries under his right eye and bled profusely. He was taken to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva for treatment, where his death was confirmed by doctors Saturday morning.
