BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained five Palestinians in overnight raids between Sunday and Monday in the occupied West Bank, according to the Israeli army, with one raid erupting into clashes that reportedly saw one Palestinian shot and injured by Israeli troops.

In the northern West Bank, two Palestinians were detained from the Jenin district. An Israeli army spokesperson identified one detention from the village of Qabatiya, and one from Beit Anan. an Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an.

In the central West Bank district of Ramallah, one Palestinian was detained from the Beit Rima village, the Israeli army confirmed. Wafa news agency reported that Israeli forces shot and injured a young man during the raid.

The soldiers opened fire at the young man, who was not yet identified, injuring him in the thighbone. He was moved to hospital for medical treatment, according to the Palestinian news agency. An Israeli army spokesperson said she was looking into the case.

Separately, in the Ramallah-area al-Jalazun refugee camp, the army claimed that they found a number of weapons during a raid on the camp. No detentions were reported from al-Jalazun.

Meanwhile in the southern West Bank, the Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that one Palestinian was detained from Bethlehem city, while another was detained from the Bethlehem-area village of Beit Fajjar.

Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with a biweekly average of 85 search and detention raids carried thus far in 2017, according to UN documentation.

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,128 Palestinians were detained by Israel as of July. The group has estimated that some 40 percent of Palestinian men will be detained by Israel at some point in their lives.

Media sources in Ramallah said several army jeeps invaded Beit Rima town at dawn, and clashed with many youngsters, who hurled stones at the military vehicles.

The sources added that the soldiers shot a young man with a live round in one of his knees, before local medics rushed him to a hospital in Ramallah.

The soldiers also abducted another man, identified as William Rimawi, 30, after invading his home and violently searching it, causing damage.

On Sunday at night, undercover Israeli soldiers infiltrated into Yatta town, south of Hebron, abducted a young man, identified as Sami Hafeth al-Hreini, 22, and took him to an unknown destination.

The soldiers also fired live rounds at a Palestinian car in Khallet al-Mayya area, close to settlement road #60, south of Hebron city, and initiated extensive searches.

Israeli Soldiers Abduct Two Palestinians In Bethlehem, One In Jenin

Israeli soldiers abducted, on Monday at dawn, two young Palestinian men in the West Bank governorate of Bethlehem, and one in Qabatia town, south of the northern West Bank city of Jenin, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) has reported.

The Bethlehem office of the PPS said the soldiers invaded Wad Ma’ali area, in the center of the city, searched homes and abducted Ayatollah Mohammad Shehada, 21, whose father was assassinated by the army in 2008.

The soldiers also invaded homes in Beit Fajjar town, south of Bethlehem, and abducted Mahmoud Farhan Deeriyya, 23.

In addition, the soldiers invaded and ransacked homes in Qabatia town, south of Jenin, and abducted Mohammad Omar Jawabra, 21.

The soldiers also installed many roadblocks, especially around the nearby towns of ‘Arraba and Ya’bad, in addition to Jenin-Nablus Road, before stopping and searching dozens of cars, and inspected the ID cards of many Palestinians.

Also at dawn, the army invaded Beit Rima town, northwest of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, wounded one Palestinian with live fire, and abducted another, identified as William Rimawi, 30, after invading his home and violently searching it, causing damage.
