RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 18 Palestinians in predawn military raids across the occupied West Bank on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS), five young Palestinian men were detained in Bethlehem district in the southern occupied West Bank.
Two of the detainees, from Husan village, were identified as Ghassan Muhammad Ibrahim Hamamra and Abdullah Tariq Shawasha. Three were detained from Beit Fajjar, identified as Hmeidan Mahmoud Taqatqa, Hatim Mahmoud Taqatqa, and Ahmad Yousif Taqatqa.
The Israeli army confirmed that two detentions were carried out in Husan and that three were made in Beit Fajjar.
In the Hebron district towns of Yatta and Dura, PPS said Israeli forces detained a woman identified as Sujud Salih Darawish in addition to two young men, Mumin Jamal Abu Hawwash and Osamah al-Umour.
According to an Israeli army spokesperson, two were detained in Dura, one in Yatta, and one in the village of al-Tabaqa next to Dura.
Four Palestinians were detained in different villages in the central Ramallah district. PPS identified them as Naji Ali Rimawi, Nazzal Omar Abu Kharma, Fadi Zeibar, and Muhammad Mahmoud Barghouthi, PPS said.
Muhammad Barghouthi, a singer, was detained alongside his band’s organist Naji Rimawi in Beit Rima and their audio engineer Nazzal Barghouthi, who was detained in Kafr Ein, over a music videoproduced by the band praising a Palestinian who carried out a deadly attack against Israeli settlers.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed just one detention in Beit Rima, one in Kafr Ein, and another in the Ramallah-area village of Kobar.
Three young Palestinian men were also detained in the Tulkarem district of the northern occupied West Bank, identified by PPS as Hazim Nidal Sabri, Nihad Mudallal, and Subhi Khalaf.
The Israeli army spokesperson mentioned one detention in the district, which she said was carried out in the town of Ramin.
In the Qalqiliya district in the northwestern occupied West Bank, Israeli forces detained 34-year-old Nassar Dahbour from Azzun village, according to PPS. The Israeli army confirmed the detention and said another Palestinian was detained in the Qalqiliya area.
PPS added that Israeli forces detained Mahmoud Jabir from Shufat refugee camp in occupied East Jerusalem.
Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with a biweekly average of 85 search and detention raids carried thus far in 2017, according to UN documentation.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,128 Palestinians were detained by Israel as of July, 320 of whom were children. The group has estimated that some 40 percent of Palestinian men will be detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
