Description
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 20 Palestinians during overnight raids between Wednesday and Thursday in several districts of the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to Palestinian and Israeli sources.

In the northern West Bank, Israeli forces detained Ibrahim Khalifeh, Abd al-Basset al-Hajj, and Abd al-Rahman Sami al-Hajj from the Jenin district, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed to Ma’an that three Palestinians were detained in the Jenin district: one in the Jenin refugee camp and two more in the village of Jalqamus.

Meanwhile, Mumen Hammad was detained from the Tulkarem refugee camp, according to PPS. An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed the detention.

In the Salfit district, Israeli forces detained four Palestinians in the village of Kifl Harris, identified by PPS as Ziyad Raed al-Qaq, 17, Anas Jaber Shaqour, 18, Ahmad Marwan Adwan, and Uday Hasan Shaqour. An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed four detentions in Kifl Haris.

In the central West Bank, PPS reported that four Palestinians were detained in the Ramallah and al-Bireh district from the villages of Kafr Ein and Beit Liqya. PPS identified the four as former prisoners of Israel Saif Attaya, Fouad Assi, Adib Mafarjeh, and Abd al-Karim Jamal Assi.

However, an Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that five Palestinians were detained in the Ramallah and al-Bireh district, which included three in Beit Liqya and two in Kafr Ein.

PPS said that Radi Shaker al-Natsheh was also detained in the town of Abu Dis in the Jerusalem district of the West Bank. An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed the detention.

Eight other Palestinians were detained in occupied East Jerusalem, PPS stated, identified as Ehab Shahin, Iyad al-Awar, Muhammad Abbasi, Mumen Hushi, Mutasem Rajabi, Najeh Bakeirat, Rabin Muhsen, and Muhammad Mizer, who PPS said was a teenager without providing his exact age.

In the southern West Bank, Israeli forces detained six Palestinians in the Bethlehem district.

Locals told Ma’an that Ismail Moussa Jibril, 45, was detained from the village of Tuqu, while teenagers Yazan Hamzeh al-Kurdi, 15, and Ali Muhammad al-Jawarish, 17, were detained from the Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem city. An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed these detentions.

PPS added that three other Palestinians were detained in the Bethlehem district, identified as Ashraf Mahmoud Salah, 39, Rizq Shihadeh Salah, 44, and Ahmad Salah Taqatqa.

In the Hebron district, Israeli forces detained three Palestinians. Locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces detained a “youth” in the Beit Awwa village, identified as Jalal Naji al-Sweiti, and raided several homes in the village of Beit Ummar.

PPS identified the two other Palestinians detained in the Hebron district: Yahiya Hasan al-Khdour, 19, and Wahid Badr Abu Fara, 36.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed the detention in Beit Awwa, and noted that another Palestinian was detained in Beit Kahil village.

Local activist Muhamamd Ayyad Awad said that Israeli forces had raided the Khillet al-Ein and Safa areas of Beit Ummar village, and searched houses belonging to Ayman Nawwaf Ahmad Sabarneh and Raed Ahmad Mifleh Aadi. Soldiers also raided the home of Aadi’s father, Awad said.

Awad added that several Molotov cocktails were thrown at Israeli army patrols as they were leaving the village. No injuries or damages were reported.

Israeli forces also confiscated money ($11,396) and a vehicle from a Palestinian home in Hebron city, according to Israeli media, alleging that the cash and vehicle were being used to buy weapons.

Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with a biweekly average of 85 search and detention raids carried thus far in 2017, according to UN documentation.

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,128 Palestinians were detained by Israel as of July, 450 of whom were held in administrative detention. The group has estimated that some 40 percent of Palestinian men will be detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
