BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 12 Palestinians during overnight raids between Wednesday and Thursday in several districts of the occupied West Bank, and seized more than $1,000 from a Palestinian family during a raid in Hebron, according to Palestinian and Israeli sources. 

In the northern West Bank, an Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that three Palestinians were detained from the village of Sur in the Jenin district, two were detained from the Nur Shams refugee camp in the Tulkarem district, and another was detained from the neighborhood of Rafadiya in Nablus. 

The spokesperson said that a total of 12 Palestinians were detained overnight, but was unable to provide details on the other detentions carried out in the West Bank. 

In the southern West Bank, Israeli forces raided a home in the village of Beit Sahour in the Bethlehem district, where two Palestinians were detained for questioning, according to Israeli media. 

The raid was reportedly conducted as part of a “campaign against illegal weapons possession,” Israeli media noted. 

In the Hebron district, locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces raided the home of Khader Ahmad Ghneimat in Surif village and took 5,500 shekels ($1,519) and gold while searching the home. 

Hebrew language news sites reported that Israeli forces had seized thousands of Israeli shekels in Surif that were allegedly sent by the Hamas movement to be used for “terrorist purposes.” 

Meanwhile, locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces had also raided and searched the homes of Ahmad Mahmoud al-Qadi, Fadi Moussa Ghneimat, and Abdullah Ghneimat -- father of slain Palestinian Mahmoud Khalid Ghneimat, and Mahmoud Abd al-Hadi al-Hur. 

Locals added that a vehicle was also seized by Israeli forces in front of al-Hur’s house. 

Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with a biweekly average of 85 search and detention raids carried thus far in 2017, according to UN documentation.

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,128 Palestinians were detained by Israel as of July. The group has estimated that some 40 percent of Palestinian men will be detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
