BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 18 Palestinians during overnight raids across the occupied West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, between Sunday and Monday, Palestinian and Israeli sources told Ma’an.
In the northern occupied West Bank district of Tulkarem, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) reported that Israeli forces detained Muhammad Ibrahim Awwad, 22, and Baraa Mahmoud Abu Isleih, 30.
Locals told Ma’an that Awwad was detained in thr Tulkarem refugee camp, while Abu Isleih was detained in the village of Attil. An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed the two detentions to Ma’an.
In the central West Bank district of Ramallah, PPS said 23-year-old Khalid Muhammad Dar Taha was detained in the village of Deir Abu Mashaal. The Israeli army confirmed one detention in the village.
Meanwhile, the army spokesperson told Ma’an that an Israeli soldier was lightly wounded during an overnight army raid in the Aqabat Jaber refugee camp in the Jericho district, when local youth threw stones at Israeli forces.
The spokesperson added that they did not have records of any detentions in the camp.
In occupied East Jerusalem, Israeli forces detained Fouad al-Qiq, Majid Kamal al-Awar, Naji Odeh, and Bahaa Odeh in the neighborhood of Silwan, PPS reported.
In the Jerusalem district of the West Bank, PPS reported the detentions of Mahmoud Khalid Khadour and Amir Samih al-Sheikh in the village of Biddu, while Ashraf Muhammad al-Hamidi, 17, was detained in al-Eizariya.
Locals meanwhile told Ma’an that Muhammad Ashraf al-Yassini was detained in Abu Dis, while four other residents of the town received summons from Israeli intelligence services.
The army spokesperson only confirmed the two detentions in Biddu and the detention in Abu Dis.
PPS reported that two Palestinians -- identified as Ahmad Nathmi Quwar and Fathi Ashraf Ramadan, 17 -- were detained in the Bethlehem district.
While PPS did not specify where the two were detained, the army spokesperson told Ma’an that two Palestinians were detained in Bethlehem City. Locals told Ma’an that Quwar, 24, was detained in the Wadi Maali neighborhood of Bethlehem City.
Locals added that Hamza Hussein al-Kamil, 29, Khalid Jamal Salhab, 35, and Khalil Jamal al-Hreimi, 21, all received summons to appear at the Gush Etzion military base for questioning.
Meanwhile, Israeli police spokeswoman Luba al-Samri said in a statement that police forces had detained a Palestinian in the Bethlehem-area town of Beit Sahour during a home raid in which a rifle was seized.
In the Hebron district, the Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that four Palestinians were detained in the village of Dura.
PPS only identified three detainees from the Hebron area -- Aysar Walid Amrah, 17, Nour Ayish Talahmeh, 19, and Mahmoud Imad al-Shahtit, 18.
The army also reported in a statement that Israeli forces had stormed the home of an alleged weapons dealer in the village of Yatta, where they seized a Carlo submachine gun. The statement did not mention any detentions in Yatta.
Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with a biweekly average of 85 search and detention raids carried thus far in 2017, according to UN documentation.
