BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian was shot and killed by Israeli forces Friday afternoon after the Palestinian allegedly attempted to carry out a stabbing attack at the Gush Etzion junction in the Bethlehem district of the southern occupied West Bank.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an that there was a stabbing attempt at the junction, and confirmed that the Palestinian was killed.
Local sources told Ma'an that the Palestinian died minutes after being shot and was put into a plastic bag by Israeli forces.
An eyewitness told Ma'an that a Palestinian male was "heading to Bethlehem on foot and Israeli forces shot at him while he was around 20 meters away from them," adding that "one of the soldiers approached the martyr and turned him over with his foot and shot him more than five times, I swear that he didn't have any type of knife with him or any kind of weapon."
Israeli media released a picture of the slain Palestinian's alleged ID card, which news outlets said was released by the Israeli army. The ID card identified the Palestinian as Bethlehem-born 24-year-old Abdullah Ali Mahmoud Taqatqa.

Palestinian Assailant Shot, Killed in Attempted West Bank Stabbing

A Palestinian terrorist was shot and killed on Friday after he tried to stab soldiers at the Gush Etzion intersection in the West Bank on Friday. Meanwhile, clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians were reported in the West Bank as well as in Gaza, were one was killed.
The assailant ran towards a popular hitchhiking spot where the soldiers were standing, holding a knife. The assailant was critically shot by the soldiers and died of his wounds shortly after.
According to military sources, a short while earlier, approximately 50 Palestinians clashed with security forces in the West Bank village of Huwara, close to the city of Nablus. Forces there responded with tear gas, and two Palestinians were reportedly injured.
In Bethlehem approximately 200 Palestinians gathered near Rachel's Tomb, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent. One person was reported injured there in clashes with security forces.
A total of 600 Palestinians were reported to be invloved in clashes across the West Bank. One soldier was lightly wounded after being struck with a rock. Seven Palestinians were also lighly injured, including two from rubber-bullet fire and one from gas inhalation. Two were also injured by ruger-rifle fire.
Noon prayers at Jerusalem's Temple Mount passed without exceptional confrontations. Ten of thousands of people participated in the prayers, though men under 50 were barred from entering the compound as security forces attempt to avoid potential security risks.
Thousands of men who didn't meet the age requirement gathered near checkpoints outside the Mount. No clashes or violent incidents were reported there. Morning prayers at the site proceeded without incident.
