BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces raided a public health clinic in the village of Kobar, north of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank on Tuesday night after smashing its gate, according to Palestinian Authority (PA)-owned Wafa news agency.

According to Wafa, the Palestinian Ministry of Health condemned the raid as an “unjustified Israeli military attack,” and called on all international health organizations to intervene “to hold Israel responsible for its repeated assaults on Palestinian health facilities.”

An Israeli army spokesperson said they were looking into reports of the raid.

The raid came just hours after human rights organization Amnesty International condemned Israeli forces for multiple violent raids into an occupied East Jerusalem hospital, which has been struggling to treat hundreds of Palestinians who have been injured by Israeli forces in recent days in a brutal crackdown on demonstrations surrounding the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Israeli forces stormed al-Makassed hospital at least twice over the past week in an attempt to detain the same protesters they had critically injured.

“The conduct of Israeli forces who carried out violent raids on al-Makassed hospital harassing and intimidating staff and patients is utterly deplorable. There can be no justification for preventing medical workers from caring for a critically wounded patient,” the statement quoted Magdalena Mughrabi, Amnesty’s regional deputy director, as saying.

Throughout the unrest, Israeli forces also obstructed patients from receiving care at al-Makassed’s clinic located inside the Old City, while raids were also reported inside hospitals in Hebron.

Tuesday night’s raid of the public health clinic took place in Kobar, the hometown of Omar al-Abed, a 19-year-old Palestinian who carried out a stabbing attack inside the illegal Israeli settlement of Halamish on Friday, which left three Israeli settlers dead.

Since the attack, Israeli forces have carried out a series of punitive measures against al-Abed’s family and the residents of Kobar, raiding and imposing a military closure on the village, preventing residents from entering or leaving the village, and detained al-Abed’s brother and mother.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also announced al-Abed’s family home would be punitively demolished, as several Israeli officials called for the death penalty to be imposed on the teenager.

The Israeli government has long faced criticism for its response to attacks, with rights groups saying severe security measures amount to collective punishment and a violation of international law.
