RAMALLAH, December 6, 2011 (WAFA) - About half of the Palestinian households were directly exposed to violence by occupation forces and settlers before July 2010, the highest in Gaza Strip, 49.1% compared to 47.8% in the West Bank. On the other hand this percentage was the highest in Qalqiliya governorate; 60.0%, according the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) report published on Tuesday.
PCBS said about 6% of youths of the age 18-29 years were exposed to psychological violence by occupation forces and settlers during the period of 12 months before July 2011; about 10% among males and 1.4% among females.
About 3% of male children were exposed to physical violence from the occupation forces during the period of 12 months before July 2011 among them 5% in the West Bank compared to 0.3% in Gaza Strip this percent was 0.4% among females, 0.7% in the West Bank while, no case were reported about females physical violence by the occupation in Gaza Strip due to the absence of direct contacts with occupation forces over there, it said.
About 6% of male children exposed to psychological violence of the occupation forces and settlers during the period of 12 months before July 2011. 8.7% were in the West Bank compared to 0.8% in Gaza Strip, this percent was 1.2%. 1.7% among females in the West Bank compared to 0.4% in Gaza Strip.
8.0% of youths aged 18-29 years were exposed to psychological violence at checkpoints of the occupation, 13.4% were males compared to 2.3% were females. While 8.0% of males youths of the same age group exposed to physical violence at the occupation checkpoints, and about 1% of the females were exposed to the same type of violence.
