NABLUS (Ma'an) -- An Israeli military court extended the detention of a Fatah lawmaker for a further six months on Thursday, months after he was imprisoned without charge, the party's press office said.
Hussam Khader, who is also chairman of the Committee for the Defense of Palestinian Refugee Rights and a known champion of reconciliation with Hamas, was detained by Israeli forces on June 2.
His lawyer Wissam Ighbaryeh said Israel's Ofer military court renewed the detention order for six more months after it alleged Khader was a threat to security in the area, according to the Fatah press statement.
There will be a judicial review of the detention order in the court on Tuesday, he added.
Khader has been detained by Israeli forces on 25 occasions and spent nine years in Israeli prison, the statement said, noting that the legislator was exiled to southern Lebanon during the first intifada and returned in 1994.
