Description
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 11 Palestinians across the occupied West Bank between Thursday night and dawn on Friday, according to Israeli and Palestinian sources.

In the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron, Israeli forces detained two Palestinians from Hebron city, and three “Hamas operatives” from the village of Surif during overnight detention raids, according to an Israeli army spokesperson.

Local Palestinian sources said that two Palestinians were detained from Surif, and identified them as former prisoner Taqi al-Din Jamal al-Hour and Baraa Hussein Hmidat.

In a statement released by the army, officials reported that in collaboration with Israeli police, Israeli army forces raided a blacksmith workshop in Hebron city where they confiscated six lathes and closed the shop after claims of finding weapons.

Separately, an army spokesperson told Ma’an that two Palestinians were detained by Israeli forces on Thursday night near the illegal Israeli settlement of Karmei Tzur, located north of Hebron city, after the two allegedly attempted to throw Molotov cocktails at the settlement. The two were then transferred to Israeli intelligence forces for interrogation.

In the Hebron-area village of Beit Ummar, Israeli forces raided searched two gas stations around dawn on Friday, according to local activist Muhammad Ayyad Awad. No detentions were reported.

In the Bethlehem district of the southern West Bank, Israeli media reported a separate incident of three Palestinians being detained for throwing Molotov cocktails.

According to Ynet news, “three suspects arrived at a Border Police base in the Etzion Brigade in the West Bank when a soldier noticed that one of the suspects had set fire to a Molotov cocktail and threw it on the floor, kicking it in the direction of the base.”

“Border Police forces and Israeli army soldiers managed to locate the suspects and bring them into custody, while another suspect was found to be in possession of additional Molotov cocktails,” Ynet said.

The website of the Reshet Bet radio station said that the detainees were “three Palestinian children” from al-Duheisha refugee camp in Bethlehem.

An Israeli army spokesperson said she could not confirm the reports.

The spokesperson added that Israeli forces detained one Palestinian from the Jerusalem-area town of al-Eizariya.

Approximately 6,300 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, including some 300 minors, and 500 Palestinians who have not been charged or tried, according to Palestinian prisoners’ rights group Addameer.

Israeli military raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the occupied West Bank.

The UN recorded an average of 95 weekly raids in the occupied West Bank in 2016, and 78 weekly raids on average thus far in 2017.
