Description
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least two Palestinians in predawn raids in the occupied West Bank, both of whom were detained in the northern district of Qalqiliya.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an that one man was detained in the city of Qalqiliya, while one alleged "Hamas operative" was detained in the village of Azzun, a few kilometers east of the city.
Local sources identified the two as 25-year-old Muhtadi Dalal and Arif Salima.
Israeli military raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the occupied West Bank. The UN recorded an average of 95 weekly raids in the occupied West Bank in 2016, and a weekly average of 78 raids thus far in 2017.
According to prisoners' rights group Addameer, 6,300 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of March, including 61 women, 300 minors, and 500 held without charge under administrative detention. The group has estimated that 40 percent of Palestinian men have been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
