Description
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 14 Palestinians in predawn military raids across the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian and Israeli sources.

A statement released by the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said that six Palestinians, including minors, were detained in the central occupied West Bank’s Jerusalem district, identified as 12-year-old Sultan Farhan, 13-year-old Ahmad Zeidani, Muhammad Atiyeh, Nour al-Din Muheisin, Ali Badr, and Ahmad al-Zaghal.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed one detention in the Jerusalem district, which she said was made in the village of Anata.

According to reports in Hebrew-language media, Israeli forces detained a 30-year-old Palestinian woman from Anata after she was accused of dialing the Israeli police’s emergency hotline several times to make false reports on attacks against Israeli forces in occupied East Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, in the central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah, PPS said that Israeli forces detained four Palestinians.

Ata Othman Urabi and Muhammad Jalal Nakhla were detained in al-Jalazun refugee camp, Diyaa Hammad Jaafar was detained from al-Amari refugee camp, and Ahmad Wael Afana was detained by undercover Israeli officers in Ramallah’s al-Masyoun neighborhood, according to PPS.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed only the two detentions in al-Jalazun, claiming that they were “Hamas operatives.”

Meanwhile, in the southern occupied West Bank, PPS said that Israeli forces detained Ramzi Abu Minnah and Muhammad Sabri Zawahira during raids in the Bethlehem district, and Shibil Ahmad Daghamin from the Hebron district.

An Israeli army spokesperson only confirmed one detention in the southern West Bank, which she said was made in the village of al-Samu, south of Hebron.

The PPS statement said that Israeli forces detained Nidal Bahjat Abd al-Hadi during raids in the Jenin district in the northern West Bank.

Locals in Jenin told Ma’an that the predawn raids were conducted in the villages of Silat al-Harithiya, al-Yamoun, and Rummana, when Israeli forces ransacked several houses, shops, as well as a cattle farm.

The Israeli soldiers viewed surveillance camera footage belonging to a number of businesses during the raids.

In addition, Israeli troops set up military checkpoints on Haifa Street near the village of Rummana in the Jenin district and inspected passing Palestinian vehicles.

Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the occupied West Bank. The UN recorded an average of 95 weekly raids in the occupied West Bank in 2016, and 78 weekly raids on average thus far in 2017.

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,500 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of January, including 300 minors and 53 women.
