RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 13 Palestinians during predawn raids Monday in multiple areas across the occupied West Bank.
Israeli forces raided the central occupied West Bank town of Birzeit before dawn, detaining student and former member of Birzeit University’s student council Istabraq al-Tamimi after breaking into her dormitory, locals sources said, adding that several other houses were raided in the area.
The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said in a statement that Israeli forces detained four Palestinians from the central occupied West Bank district of Jerusalem, without providing further details.
In al-Jalazun refugee camp in the central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah, Israeli forces detained brothers Muhammad, 19, and Ibrahim, 21. According to an Israeli army spokesperson, a total of three Palestinians were detained in al-Jalazun.
In the Jericho district, PPS said that Israeli forces detained 18-year-old Wadi Issa Jibril Manasra in Ein as-Sultan refugee camp, as well as 23-year-old Saleh Ibrahim Nimr Sawarka in the village of Marj al-Najah. An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed both detentions.
Israeli forces also detained Uday Samir Abu Haniyeh in the village of Azzun in the northern Qalqiliya district, according to PPS, which was confirmed by an Israeli army spokesperson who claimed he was a Hamas operative.
Israeli forces also detained former prisoner Ayyad al-Hreimi, who was recently released from Israeli prison after conducting 48-day hunger strike against administrative detention, the PPS statement said, without specifying the location of the detention.
An Israeli army spokesperson added that two Palestinians were detained in the southern occupied West Bank -- one in the city of Bethlehem and one in the Hebron-area village of Idhna.
The UN recorded an average of 95 weekly raids in the West Bank in 2016, and 73 weekly raids on average thus far in 2017.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,500 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of January, 53 of whom were women and 300 of them minors. Some 420 Palestinians were detained throughout the month of February alone -- including 70 minors and 22 women and girls.

Israeli soldiers abducted, overnight and at dawn Monday, at least Thirteen Palestinians, including a young female student, in different parts of the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) has reported.
The PPS in Ramallah, in central West Bank, said the soldiers abducted five Palestinians, including the young student, from several areas of the district.
It identified the young woman as Estobroq Tamimi, 22, from the al-Ram town, north of Jerusalem, and added that she was taken prisoner from her student dorm in Birzeit University.
Furthermore, the soldiers invaded and searched homes in Jericho district, and abducted Wadea’ Issa Manasra, 18, from Ein al-Sultan refugee camp, and Saleh Ibrahim Sawaka, 23, from Marj Na’ja village.
In Bethlehem, the soldiers abducted a former political prisoner, identified as Ayyad Jamal al-Hreimi, 24, after violently searching his home, causing excessive damage.
It is worth mentioning that al-Hreimi was repeatedly abducted and imprisoned by the army, and held a fifty-day hunger striking, protesting his illegal Administrative Detention without charges or trial, before he was released only two months ago.
In addition, many army vehicles invaded the al-Jalazoun refugee camp, in Ramallah, before the soldiers searched homes and abducted two siblings, identified by their first names as Mohammad, 19, and Ibrahim, 21.
The soldiers also invaded homes in Azzoun town, in the northern West Bank district of Qalqilia, and abducted Odai Samir Abu Haniya, 26.
In Tulkarem district, in the northern part of the West Bank, the soldiers searched homes, and abducted two Palestinians, identified as Mohammad Motea’ ‘Asrawi, 39, from ‘Allar town, north of the city, and Ayman Khaled Tanja, 24, from Tulkarem refugee camp.
Earlier at dawn, the soldiers invaded and searched homes in the al-‘Eesawiyya town, in occupied Jerusalem, and abducted four Palestinians, identified as Hatem Zomorrod, Mohammad Nasser, his brother Ahmad Nasser, and Mohammad Ramzi Mheisin.
In related news, soldiers stationed across the border fence, in central Gaza, fired several live rounds at Palestinian shepherds, east of Deir al-Balah city, forcing them away.
