HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 14 Palestinians in predawn raids Sunday in multiple areas across the occupied West Bank.

Locals sources said that Israeli troops raided the home of Muhammad Khader Hawamda in the village of al-Samu south of Hebron in southern occupied West Bank. Israeli forces detained Hawamda and his four sons Khalil, Ali, Yousif, and Ahmad.

The Israeli army also claimed they found a handgun and ammunition in al-Samu.

Locals in Hebron said Israeli forces also detained Mamun al-Natsha in the Tel Rumeida neighborhood on Saturday evening, with the Israeli army claiming he was carrying a screwdriver and planning a stabbing attack.

In the southern West Bank district of Bethlehem, locals said Israeli forces detained 22-year-old Hassan Ahmad Sabatin and Yazan Sabatin from the town of Husan, 22-year-old Muayyad Salah Taqatqa in Beit Fajjar, as well as 18-year-old Jamil Ibrahim Taqatqa and an unidentified woman from Umm Salamuna.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed one detention in Beit Fajjar and one in Umm Salamuna, and informed Ma'an of another detention carried out in Sawahira al-Sharqiya in the central Jerusalem district.

In Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank, Israeli forces detained Omar Ghalib Abu Bakir and his brother Jamal, locals in the area said. An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed the two detentions. Israeli forces also detained Saeb Alawna from a flying checkpoint in the district, locals said.

The UN recorded an average of 95 weekly raids in the West Bank in 2016, and 73 weekly raids on average thus far in 2017.

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,500 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of January, 53 of whom were women and 300 of them minors. Some 420 Palestinians were detained throughout the month of February alone -- including 70 minors and 22 women and girls.
