RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 22 Palestinians -- 12 of whom from a Bethlehem-area refugee camp alone -- in overnight raids between Wednesday and Thursday in the occupied Palestinian territory, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.
Israeli forces carry out detention raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-nightly basis, with the UN recording an average of 95 weekly raids in the West Bank in 2016, and 100 weekly raids thus far in 2017.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were detained in Israeli prisons as of October 2016.
Southern and central West Bank
In the southern occupied West Bank district of Bethlehem, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) reported that 13 Palestinians were detained by Israeli forces, identifying them as Asaad Rashid Darwish, 19, Ali Muhammad Abu Srour, Islam Jawarish, 30, Ali Hassan Abu Srour, 20, Samed Atiq, Ramzi Qawar, 32, Muhammad Odeh, Muhammad Jumaa Uweis, Abdullah Hamad, Mustafa Ibrahim Qneis, 32, Fathi Abu Srour, Majd Akram Abu Khdeir, 21, and Mahmoud Sabatin.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed to Ma'an 13 detentions in the district, listing one detention in the village of Husan and 12 in Aida refugee camp.
They added that the raid in Aida was a joint operation between the army and the Shin Bet intelligence agency to detain locals for unspecified “illegal activities.”
In the Hebron district, PPS reported the detention of Youssif Abd al-Aziz Maghnam, 50, and his son Hussein, 22.
The army spokesperson said two Palestinians were detained in the Hebron-area village of Yatta, while another was detained in the city of Hebron.
PPS also said Thaer Abu Sbeih, 20, was detained in Jerusalem, without specifying whether it was occupied East Jerusalem or the Jerusalem district of the West Bank. The army made no mention of a Jerusalem-area detention.
Northern West Bank
In the northern West Bank, PPS said that Israeli forces detained Omar Husni Ghawadra in the Jenin district, as well as Samer Samih Sawafta and Saher Anis Abu Muhsen in the Tubas district.
The army mentioned one detention in the Jenin district, as well as two in the city of Tubas.
In the Nablus district, PPS stated that Muhammad Muayyad Ghazi and Karam Salah were detained by Israeli forces.
The army spokesperson said one Palestinian was detained in the village of Jit, while another was detained in Jammain.

Dozens of Israeli soldiers invaded, on Thursday at dawn, ‘Aida refugee camp, north of the West Bank city of Bethlehem, searched many homes and abducted twelve young Palestinian men. The soldiers also summoned two Palestinians for interrogation, and abducted one Palestinian in Husan town, west of Bethlehem.
The Bethlehem office of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) said the soldiers violently invaded and searched many homes in the refugee camp, and interrogated many Palestinians before abducting twelve.
The abducted Palestinians have been identified as As’ad Rashid Darwish, 19, Ali Mohammad Abu Srour, 20, Ali Ahmad Abu Srour, 19, Mohammad Khader Odah, Lutfi Qneiss, 23, Abdullah Ali Hammad, 18, Samed Ahmad Hammad, 23, Ramzi Omar Quwwar, 37, Mohammad Jom’a ‘Oweiss, 18, Fathi Yassin Abu Srour, Amjad Abu Khdeir and Islam Jawareesh.
The soldiers also summoned two young men, identified as Mohannad Barhoum and Homam Majed Qaraqe’, for interrogation in Etzion military base and security center, north of Bethlehem.
It is worth mentioning that the soldiers also invaded Husan town, west of Bethlehem, and abducted one Palestinian, identified as Mahmoud Ahmad Sabateen, 45.
